How to Attend University Absolutely Free!

One of biggest dilemmas facing young people today is the question of how to pay for university.

This is especially true in North America where the cost of universities has gone up 1000% since the 1950’s. (Okay, I made that figure up, but I’m sure it is not too far off).

Most people who graduate from university today start their careers with a mountain of debt. Or you see graduates who can’t find any jobs except the minimum wage paying ones.

Another issue is that many students graduate with degrees that don’t translate into related jobs. For example, lets say you get a degree in Philosophy, it doesn’t mean you can become a philosopher and get paid for it. Last time I checked companies were not scrambling to hire a philosopher.

Instead you will be left with a huge price tag. Or a mountain of debt if you had to borrow money to pay for it.

Please don’t get me wrong. I am not knocking anyone who is interested in Philosophy. I took it as an elective in university and loved it. But if you want to learn about a certain topic, go to a library and feast on thousands of books you desire. You shouldnt have to end up paying $100,000+ in tuition for the privilege of learning topics that you enjoy.

The point that I am trying to make is don’t get into huge debt and then end up with a degree that you can’t use.

We live in amazing times. Thanks to the Internet, you have access to a world of information on any topic you can think of, at the click of a button.

So if you have a passion for a subject and you know you can’t make a career out of it, then you can hit the library, order books on Amazon or use the Internet to learn as much as you want.

A great site you can use to learn technical skills is Udemy.com

If you wish to interact with like-minded individuals to discuss a certain topic then you can use Meetup.com to find a group near you.

Now let’s say you want to attend university but don’t have the money to pay for it. And you especially don’t want to take on a student loan to pay for it. Being in debt is like digging a hole that you can’t get out of. But don’t worry, you have plenty of options. Allah provides solutions for everyone. It is our job to make an effort to search for those solutions. Let me show you below. Just keep reading…

3) Scholarships

Every year in America, millions of dollars worth of scholarships go unclaimed. I am not even talking about scholarships provided by the universities. I am talking about many companies and organizations that provide scholarships.

There is an app that helps you find scholarships easily.

It is called Scholly.

You can find it below:

https://www.myscholly.com/

And here is the maker of the app on Shark Tank explaining how he won $1.4 million dollars in scholarships

And here is a list of universities that provide scholarships around the world

The websites below all provide accredited degrees or courses at no cost:

This is not an exhaustive list, I am sure there are more options too. If you know of a method, tool or tip on how to avoid tuition cost please share them so that others can benefit.

And Allah Knows Best

Great article. I just want to add: if you’re interested in Europe – particularly France, Germany or Austria – degrees are taught in the mother tongue, NOT English (with the few exceptions in Masters and Doctoral programs).
That being said, on the bright side your education would be in really good hands and you’d have learnt a new language that’s under your belt.
here’s a useful website for more info on studying in Germany http://www.daad.de (website available in English)

Thanks so much for your input

One of my friends studied in School of Audio Engineering, in Koln (or Cologne) in Germany

      https://www.sae.edu/en-gb/gallery/705/Gallery_Buildings

And he said there he was taught 70% in English

But you are right, there is a need to know the local language for sure for learning and day to day living interaction.

The article should have reflected that fact

      jazakallah khair

Masha’ Allah, knowledgeable article. I wish I knew about tuition-free or low-cost options before I attended university. Nevertheless, I may have a chance with graduate programs.

As for student debt, the only thing I did to avoid tuition cost was to apply for a repayment assistance plan with the government regarding my part federal, part provincial student loan. My loan became interest-free after graduating. In my case, it depended on my income after graduation. Also, government and university grants while studying helped greatly.
